MINUTES in a MINUTE
Call to order: Meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. by President Jackie Smart at Richard's Family Restaurant.
President’s Report:
- The Executive Board minutes of June 23, 1999 were read and moved to be accepted by Barb Broadley and seconded by Joan Cady.
- Jackie encouraged us to attend State and International workshops. She and Cindy will be going to Lansing October 1-2 for the Fall Workshops.
- Cindy has been appointed a member of the State Communications Committee.
- Mary Tracey (new State President) has as her pet project- The Educational Foundation. We are asked to donate $2.00 per member. Cindy Dietz moved, Barb Broadley seconded that we contribute $100.00 from the contingency fund. Voted on and passed.
- Metro Council Birthday Luncheon is April 8. R.S.V.P's should be in by March 27, 2000. Jackie would like at least 5 people to go to the luncheon.
- Jennifer Granholm, State Attorney-General. will be guest speaker at the January 20, 2000 meeting. Mary Foster will coordinate with Jane Libbing of Gamma Gamma.
Treasurer’s Report:
Cindy Dietz reported for Grace Morgan.
Saving: $6,551.09
Checking: $1072.75
Grant-in-aid: $4592.81
Sandy Becher moved and Joan Lyon seconded that we accept the Treasurer’s Report.
Corresponding Secretary’s Report:
We received a letter from Paula Rivard thanking us for the very nice gift we sent for her retirement.
Committee Reports:
- Research and Professional Affairs - Mary Foster would like names of dignitaries we can invite to the January 20, 2000 meeting.
- Personal Growth and Development- Debbie Ervin has obtained Nedra Downing, an osteopathic doctor, nutritionist and environmentalist to speak on Women’s Issues on March 11. Her cost will be $150.00. Debbie wanted to interview her before she made anything definite.
- Legislation -Nancy Bielik has arranged for Judge Gail McKnight will speak. Note time change in calendar.
- Music - no report (although Carol always carries the tape recorder with her!)
- Service Projects - Judy Handley explained our October 13 meeting at Elliott for the residents living at the Wayne County Family Center. Organizational meeting at Elliott at 3:00 on September 30.
- Birthday Dinner - Alice Duke- April 5, 2000 at Hawthorne Valley
- Ad Hoc Committee- Ruth Everett- library project. No report.
Society Business -
- Membership - February 23 will be the new member orientation. Recommendations should be presented at November 3 meeting.
- Nominations- Committee will meet at Joan Lyon's house on September 29 to prepare a new slate to be presented at the November 3 meeting.
- Finance - books were audited and all is well.
- Communications Yearbook - Colleen Retherford will have our yearbook ready for the November meeting. Any address, phone, e-mail, or position changes should be sent to her or Sandy Becher.
- Newsletter - continues to be doing a great job.
- Empathy - Judi Fisher and Carol Anderson volunteered to take over this position.
- Historian - No report
Educational Services -
- World Fellowship - Scholarship - Cindy Dietz asked us to start thinking of people to apply.
- Jackie suggested that a newly employed teacher receive money to start their room. Mary Jo Dreffs moved and Joan Cady seconded. Vote unanimous. Bring names of new teachers to the November meeting.
