"Get Smart"
During the March meeting we will be entertained (!) and informed about the Founders of Delta Kappa Gamma. We will also meet four "key women educators" who are interested in joining our chapter. Please plan on attending. Delta Kappa Gamma members have been offered a challenge on a Global Scale. I have enclosed the flyer about the UNICEF Book Sponsorship in Gambia. If you choose to get involved, this is a personal contribution and will be mailed directly by you to UNICEF in New York. Jackie |
Minutes from February meeting Health News - Lower Your Breast Cancer Risk by Half International Information Brain Teasers! Gamma Alpha Bulletin: GAB
Mary Jo Dreffs and Bonnie Franka forgot their Recommendation for Membership form at home during the February meeting. Joan Murray needs to be added to the list of key women teachers interested in becoming members. Joan is a former special education teacher consultant. She is currently teaching third grade in Wayne-Westland schools. Joan lives in Livonia and has a son in the MACAT program at Frost. (Before the orientation of prospective members, we will need to have a membership vote of acceptance for Joan.) I sent out an electronic plea for some news from our out of state retirees. Marcia Scarr has e-mailed us from Florida. She writes: Hi Jackie, The weather here has been beautiful. We are having a cold spell right now, but a change in weather is always welcome! (Cold spell this time means in the 60's during the day going down to 40's tonight.) I have been very busy this season - doing Physical Therapy on my neck, upper back, and arm; playing a little golf; entertaining friends; and participating in a book club, film group, and theatre group through the Brandeis University National Women's Committee. So, hope that helps with Delta Kappa Gamma Chatter. Hi to everyone from me. Marcia Cindy Dietz will not be able to attend the State Convention this year. She will be at her graduation ceremony receiving her Masters degree. Way to go, Cindy. "Visit Your Legislator" On March 17th, Delta Kappa Gamma will join with the Michigan Secondary and Elementary principals (MASSP & MEMSPA) for a Legislative Day featuring impressive, issue-oriented speakers giving insight to issues being legislated at our state capitol. This is your chance to tell legislators, as an individual, ideas you have to improve K-12 education. If you are interested in attending, a registration form is included with the newsletter. I hope some of our members will try to attend. Deadline for April Newsletter is March 20th. Please drop Cindy a line!

1998-1999 CALENDAR
March 10: Prospective members will get an overview of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International via a "Readers Theater" presentation of My Name is Annie. This is sponsored by Personal Growth and Music Committees. A social hour will follow. Dinner will be at 5:30 at the Water Club Grill located at Ann Arbor Road and I-275. We will meet downstairs and have only three menu choices.
These are the regular dinner prices and include tax and gratuity. The management has again changed at Water Club, so we are not able to eat off the luncheon menu as we usually do. The presentation/meeting will begin at 7:00 for those unable to make it for dinner. April 21: New members will be initiated at the Birthday Dinner. Candy, Mary Foster, Esther and Alice will let us know the details soon. May 14-16: State Convention at Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel!! Registration form was in the Winter Wolverine and last month’s newsletter.
