Meet Carol Holland

Carol Holland is this month's Meet Our Member. Carol has been a member since 1981. Barbara Broadley (November's M.O.M.) was her sponsor and got Carol involved right away. She has held the office of 2nd Vice President for two biennium. She has served on many committees and has been very active in our chapter.

Carol's undergraduate work began at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. She completed her Bachelor's degree at Eastern Michigan University. She was granted a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastern as well.

Carol is completing her twenty-ninth year with Livonia Public Schools. She has always taught young ones. She was at Hoover School for sixteen years in first grade. (That is where she met Barbara.) Carol was the driving force behind the Readiness Program for L.P.S. She initiated and conducted this program for eight years at Buchanan. This was an alternative program for kindergarten children who were not ready for first grade. Carol is completing her fifth year at Tyler School teaching first grade.

Carol currently lives in Novi. She has four married children who live in Royal Oak, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, and Dallas. Two of her four children have followed in mom's footsteps and are teachers. She has four granddaughters and another grandchild is due in March. They are all hoping for a boy! Carol loves to travel and visit her children. She has been on a cruise to Alaska and has shared photos with our chapter. She tries to walk as often as she can for exercise and enjoyment. She went to Galena, Illinois on an antique outing. Carol says that she will antique for anything! During her spare time Carol loves to read, especially "trashy novels" while she relaxes by the pool during the summer.

Carol plans on retiring this June. She will try to keep in education, though. She would like to work through Madonna College supervising student teachers. She has had many student teachers during her career and this would be a good way to keep active in education.
